Members of the Moorpark City Council held a meeting Jan. 2, discussing how residents of Peach Hills, Mountain Meadows and Serenata were making complaints of how they can smell a “skunk-like” odor and that’s due to the fact that they are adjacent to the industrial hemp farm located near Tierra Rejada.

On Jan. 27, the members of the Simi Valley City Council discussed the issue of cannabis. Based on their discussions, I argue that the city should allow cannabis businesses to operate and allow all five of the business types, which are cultivation, manufacturing, testing labs, distribution and retail.

Camarillo City Council to decide on hemp ban

The decision comes after the Camarillo Planning Commission unanimously voted last month in favor of a proposed ordinance to ban cultivation of the crop. The ordinance would not apply to unincorporated land outside the city limits and would not go into effect unless approved by the City Council.

When California voters approved Proposition 64 in 2016, the state had to tackle the problem of regulating what had until then been a semi-legal product. Cannabis had been available for medical use since Prop. 215, but not all cities and counties were on board with the 1996 groundbreaking law.
