I have been smoking cannabis for recreational use for several years and I seem to get the munchies a lot worst that most of my friends. Is this based on the strain I am using?
I've found that the different strains can have different levels of impact on appetite for sure. Although to be honest, for me the biggest difference is between delivery methods. Smoking and vaping impact my stomach far less than edibles (which make me very hungry!). But with the strains, I feel that sativa can be less appetite-inducing compared to Indica. What kind of strains do you normally smoke?
That is interesting! I enjoy the immediate effect of smoking cannabis as opposed to edibles which can be a bit difficult to dose accurately; at least based on my experience. I find Sativa to get me extremely wired and Indica very lazy so I usually go with a Sativa dominant Hybrid. Would you recommend me trying a different strain or change the delivery method?
I think the delivery method is fine! the best thing for munchies is behavioral and environmental control. Like getting high and going for a walk, you can't eat what you don't have. The same goes for at home, avoid buying unhealthy snacks, so if you do get the munchies, at least its healthy food! Beyond that, drinking lots of water can help make your stomach feel more full. The rest is developing self-control and good habits (whether sober or high!), as it takes effort to say no to all those treats others put in front of us
Im gonna take you up on such advise and get rid of comfort food. I do know I have a little bit of issues pertaining to the amounts I eat when I am high! I also usually feel like shit in the mornings until I get rehydrated so I will make sure I bring plenty water throughout my smoking session to hopefully not get as hungry and potentially feel less groggy in the am.
Do you manage your munchies with healthy food, water or just by keeping yourself busy?
That's good! Happy to hear my comments have been well received! I manage my diet all the time, sober or high. I like intermittent fasting during the day, and that way if I do eat some junk at night at least my total calorie count stays low. May be something you want to check out, it basically is as simple as avoiding eating for 12 hours a day (usually from bed time till noon or later).
Keeping busy does also help, especially in the early day of building better eating habits. And don't feel bad if you do indulge a little, cannabis can make food taste even better! That said, sticking to healthier food can make a big difference in how you feel (maybe even reduce some of that AM grogginess!)
I agree about the delivery method! That has really been the only difference for me. I have had both all ways and the strains don’t seem to effect me to much. It’s all about delivery.
Thanks for adding that in, glad you agree. I think some of the differences between strains is exaggerated, and people overlook delivery methods. I also think people forget to ask about their body state (like how fed, stressed, and well-slept they are). Do you find these factors to play a big role?
@Informed High I gotta believe they play a pretty big role. I mean think about it if you aren’t well slept and then smoke - your out probably. Not well fed? Your going to feel sick and hungry probably. Stressed well that's gonna make you want to smoke more probabl.
